MEDICARE PART B
Medicare Part B: Major Medical
Medicare Part B helps cover things like doctors, outpatient care, and other medical services that Part A doesn’t cover. Part B also covers some preventive care services like exams, lab tests, and screening shots. The key phrase to remember about Part B coverage is “medically necessary.” If Medicare deems a service “medically necessary”, it will probably be covered.
Unlike Part A, most people pay a monthly premium for Part B coverage. In 2007, this can vary depending on your income, marital status, and tax filing status. Premiums are listed below. Note that Part B is optional. That is, you still get Part A coverage even if you choose not to buy Part B coverage.

Part B: Premiums, Deductibles, and Co-Pays
Remember that Medicare is insurance. Like any insurance, there is the monthly cost for the insurance (your premiums); annual deductibles (the amount you must pay before the insurance pays), and; co-pays (the amount you pay for each service).
If you enroll in Original Medicare, Medicare sets how much you pay in premiums. Here are the rates for 2008.
